Harvest Hope Collection

Polo Road has partnered with Spring Valley High School and is collecting canned goods and non-perishable food items to be donated to the local Harvest Hope Food Bank for families in need who reside within our community.  We are asking students and staff to bring the following items in for donation.
  • Canned vegetables
  • Canned meats
  • Diapers
  • Toiletries (soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes)
  • Paper bags
  • Plastic bags
  • Peanut butter
  • Detergent
Marked boxes to collect the donations are located in the halls. Students are asked to give their donations to their teacher to ensure they are placed in the correct box, as grade levels will compete to see who brings in the most items. Donations will be gathered until December 17, 2018. Your participation is a great way to demonstrate the character trait of compassion.

Family Night at Chick-fil-A

Family Night at Chick-fil-A last night was a huge success!  Thank you to all of the Explorers who came out in support.  We had over 100 families participate, and as you can see from the photos below, a great time was had by all.  Visit our Facebook page to view additional photos from this event.

Technology Design and Develop Session

Check out some of our 3rd grade teachers collaboratively working to design meaningful learning experiences that effectively incorporate the use of technology and engage students at higher levels.

Dictionaries

Members of the Spring Valley Rotary Club delivered dictionaries to all of the 3rd grade students at PRE.  The students were really excited to receive their very own dictionaries and as students thanked the Rotary Club members, many commented on how they knew the dictionaries would help them with many of their future assignments.

School Store

The School Store is now open for this school year. It will be open on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 7:30am-8:00am.  Students may purchase items from the school store with either cash or blue tickets they have earned for going "above and beyond" during the school day.  The school store is located in the hallway just behind the multi-purpose room.

Parents can also order hard-covers and/or customize their children’s yearbooks.  Pre-orders can be made by sending in the payment with students or by placing orders online.  Just visit ybpay.lifetouch.com and use the yearbook ID code of 12155619 to order online.

Super Soil Science

This week, our 5th graders had the opportunity to engage in some super soil science investigations.  This allowed them to learn more about erosion, weathering, and soil composition, while also participating in some hands-on science discoveries.

Thanksgiving Break

All Richland School District Two schools will be closed for the Thanksgiving Break from Wednesday, November 21 - Friday, November 23.  We hope all are able to use this break to spend time with loved ones and reflect a bit on things for which you are thankful.  We look forward to seeing all of our Explorers safely back at school on Monday, November 26.

After Care Field Study

The 4th and 5th grade students enrolled in Polo Road's Afternoon Explorers' program took a field trip to E.L. Wright Middle school to support the Colonial Day event presented by students in the Leadership at Wright (LAW) program.

Career Day

Students at PRE participated in Career Day today.  The purpose of Career Day is to introduce students to various careers, help them better understand the world of work, and get them excited about their futures.  Students were fortunate enough to learn from a bilingual social worker, radiation safety specialist, personal trainer, medical assistant, IT systems administrator, helicopter pilot, auto mechanic, children's author and illustrator, veterinary tech, and military personnel.  We hope today's events piqued the interests and curiosities of our students and got them thinking about how they might one day positively contribute to various professions in the future.  Additional photos from today can be found on our Facebook page.

Field Study

Mr. Murphy's class enjoyed a field study to the bowling alley today and everyone had a "ball"!

Family Science Night

Last week Polo Road hosted its annual Family Science Night, and as always, it was a huge success!  Several PRE families came out to make some long-lasting scientific memories.  We would like to thank the Home Depot, Ms. Bland, the science committee, PRE Families, community volunteers, and ALL staff members who helped in any way to make this night such a huge success!  Check out some of the pictures below, and if you missed science night this year, you will definitely want to try to join us next year!  You can also visit our Facebook page to see some additional photos from this event.

R2 Film Festival

Richland Two provides a unique opportunity for students and district staff to share their stories via video creation. This is the sixth year Richland Two has hosted the Film Festival and we are truly excited about the possibilities!  Students who are interested in participating in this year's festival should complete the interest form and be sure to turn in all permission slips.  If you would like additional information or to view a brief video hearing from some of the previous participants, click on the Film Festival link.  If your child is creative and/or enjoys making home videos, participating in the Film Festival might be the perfect opportunity for him or her to showcase a talent.

Career Day 2018

career
Hello Explorer Parents!
What: Career Day is rapidly approaching and we need YOUR experiences! Whether you are a nurse, mechanic, astronaut, custodian, pilot, physician, lawyer, dentist, engineer, chef, cosmetologist, banker, business owner...etc - we need YOU!
Why: We are looking for a variety of people interested in spending a day teaching our students about their career. Many of our students are unaware of the career opportunities available to them and this is a fantastic way to provide them with first hand knowledge of potential career paths.
When & Where: Our 2018 Polo Road Elementary Career Day is November 16th from  8:15 am - 2:35 pm. The morning sessions (8:15-11:20 am) will be dedicated to 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. The afternoon sessions (11:45-2:35) will be dedicated to our Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd graders.
How: You will be stationed in a classroom and will present six times for twenty minutes each session. Please feel free to bring visual aids, giveaways, promotional ideas etc in order to help make your presentation come alive for our students!
Thank you in advance for your involvement!
(If you have any questions or would like to get further information please contact:

Election Day

On Tuesday, November 6, registered voters will have the opportunity to decide who speaks on their behalves by exercising their rights to vote.  As a result of many Richland Two schools serving as polling places, all schools will be closed on this day.  Classes will resume Wednesday with a normal bell schedule.  Happy Voting!

Welcome

PRE has a new receptionist!  Ms. Tammy Capers will now serve in the role of receptionist and substitute coordinator at Polo Road.  Please join us in welcoming Ms. Capers to the Explorer Family and know that she is extremely excited to be working with all of the wonderful students and families of Polo Road Elementary.

Report Cards

Students in grades K-5 received their first report cards of the school year today.  Parents should keep the report cards and sign and return the report card jackets only.  Please also take a moment and review with your child what is reported on the document.  Be sure to:

1.) Look for the good.
Celebrate all of the pluses and positives that are mentioned on the report card.  If you make it a big deal, you increase the likelihood that it will happen again.

2.)  Look for something that can be improved.
While there may be a number of areas in which your child can improve, just choose one.  Engage your child in a discussion about what he or she can do to improve in that area.  Also, discuss what you (the parent) will do to help.
