In honor of Autism Awareness Week (April 16-April 20), the special education team at PRE is selling t-shirts for the faculty, staff, and students to wear on Friday, April 20.  The shirts will be worn in support of all individuals and families that are affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder.  The t-shirts were designed by two Polo Road students and are only $10 each.  Order forms were sent home earlier and all forms and money are due tomorrow, Thursday, March 29.  Checks should be made payable to Polo Road Elementary.  If you haven't placed your order just yet, it's not too late!

Guinea Pig Sitter

Ms. Bland, our Discovery Lab teacher, is in need of a temporary home over Spring Break for her two class guinea pigs.  Cookie Dough and Harley need a volunteer to take them in for the upcoming week we will be out of school.  All needed food, bedding, and supplies will be provided. Parents just have to stop by PRE on Thursday, March 29 or Friday, March 30 to pick up the guinea pigs and supplies.  Anyone interested should contact Ms. Bland at 803.419.2226 (Ext. 30402) or dbland@richland2.org.  This experience is the perfect opportunity for an Explorer and family to demonstrate the Character Traits of Effort and Responsibility; and Ms. Bland would greatly appreciate the kind gesture.

Do you remember our GOTR team's fall community impact project...

Pennies for Puerto Rico?

Well, they have gotten the attention of our SC State Senate and was recognized in the Senate House yesterday by Senator Katrina Shealy!

They, along with our school, were awarded with a SENATE RESOLUTION and applauded on the floor of the Senate for their tenacity, generosity and team spirit in helping others.

Way to go, PRE's GOTR Team & Coaches!

Student Safety MATTERS!

Carpool Procedures

Please be mindful of the following carpool procedures in order to ensure the safety of every PRE student.

  • Every child needs hugs, kisses, or high-fives to start the school day.  Please take care of this before arriving in the drop-off zone each day.
  • Students may begin exiting cars at 7:30 am each morning when school employees come outside to greet and assist students.
  • Only the right lane is for drop-off and pick-up.  Merge into this lane as soon as you get to the yellow island.
  • Remain in the right lane until you are at the front of the school and allow your child to enter and exit the car from the  passenger side only.
  • If you use the safety lock feature on your car, please remember to disable this feature when dropping off or picking up your student.
  • Remember to clearly display your child's car rider sign in the window of your vehicle during dismissal.  This helps our staff know that the person in the vehicle is authorized to pick up the student and it helps to expedite the pick-up process.
  • When a car does not have an official school sign, the driver will need to park and come into the front office (with ID) to obtain a sign, and then circle back into the carpool line.

We appreciate your continued support with these reminders.  We just want to do all that we can to ensure everyone's safety.

Lunch Buddies

Once a month, the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) students from Richland Northeast High School visit PRE to have lunch with Mrs. Luqmaan's 2nd graders.  This serves as a wonderful opportunity to build community, trust, and relationships with others and the students really enjoy the company!

Parent Surveys

We have begun receiving some of the completed surveys from the parents of our 5th grade families.  However, we are still waiting to receive quite a few more.  Thank you very much to those families who have already completed and returned the surveys.  If you are a parent of a 5th grader and you have not completed and returned the survey sent home last week, please take a few minutes to do so as soon as possible.  This survey is completed annually by 5th grade parents, and the collected data are included in the school's state report card.  With this being said, we would therefore like a true measure of the collected data by having input from most, if not all, of our 5th grade families.  We need your help to make this happen.  All surveys should be returned by Friday, March 16, and we thank you in advance for your assistance with this.

Cookie Dough Fundraiser

This is a reminder that all Cookie Dough Fundraiser monies are due tomorrow, March 15.  With that in mind, please know that you can make these few remaining hours really count.  Don't forget to contact grandma, grandpa, family members out of town, and/or neighbors you know who might also enjoy some of these delicious cookies.  There is even still time to sell 5 or more items and have your child's name entered to win the Taxi ride provided by Dr. Bosier!

Principal Taxi Ride

Has your child sold 5 or more Cookie Dough items?  If so, he or she could be next to receive a Taxi Ride provided by our principal, Dr. Bosier!  The names of all students who sell at least 5 items are entered into a drawing to receive the Taxi Ride to lunch.  Each morning a different name is pulled and the next name could be your child's!  So please keep selling that Cookie Dough!

PRE Paint and Design Night

Just a reminder that Polo Road's Paint and Design Night is this week and RSVP forms are due tomorrow, March 14, 2018.  If you need another RSVP form, please click on the link above.  Paint Night will be held this Friday, March 16, beginning at 6:30pm.  Because space is limited, participants will need to sign up in advance.  We look forward to seeing many of you this Friday evening!

Social Media Contest

We would like to thank all of our PRE family members who are following us on social media!  We held a Social Media Contest and many of you answered the call for your children's classrooms.  We are pleased to announce that several more PRE families are now staying informed via one or more of our social media platforms.

The CD-2nd grade classroom winner of the Social Media Contest is Mr. Hays' 2nd grade class and the 3-5 winning class is Mrs. Graham's 3rd grade class.  Congratulations to both!  The students in both classes will receive a pizza party for going above and beyond!  While these two classrooms are the winners of the contest, we realize that all those who participated and joined the PRE Social Media Bandwagon are winners.  We therefore invite any and all others to feel free to follow, subscribe, and/or like us.

Recorder Black Belt

Congratulations to the only student in PRE musical recorder history to earn his 9th degree black belt in recorder karate.  Please join us in congratulating Rohan on this major accomplishment!

Darth Vader Visits PRE

What do you do when Darth Vader shows up at your school?  Sell more COOKIE DOUGH, of course!  Darth Vader made a special appearance at PRE earlier this week to check the progress of how much Cookie Dough our Explorers had sold thus far.  He was pleased with our progress and wants to encourage everyone to continue safely selling to friends and family members; and we'll be sure to keep you posted as to whether or not he makes another appearance!

Daylight Savings

This Sunday is Daylight Savings time, so don't forget to spring forward and set your clocks ahead one hour!

3rd Graders Meet the Governor

PRE's 3rd grade students visited the State House today and some of the students got the opportunity to meet South Carolina's governor!

Paint and Design

Mark your calendars because Polo Road is hosting its second Paint and Design Night!  However, because space is limited, we need all those who plan to attend to RSVP by Wednesday, March 14, 2018.  All supplies will be provided, but participants may want to bring a smock or apron.  Forms to RSVP were sent home with students earlier this week, but those interested can also download the Paint and Design RSVP form here to complete and return before the deadline.

Once again..PTO has used the Pathfinder Fitness Funds to directly benefit our students!

Thanks PRE PTO!!

Read Across America Day

Today was a great day filled with lots and lots of reading at Polo Road Elementary!  It is Dr. Seuss' birthday and in honor of his birthday, it is also Read Across America Day.  PRE's students and teachers celebrated in a huge way!  Guest readers were invited to come in and read, and various classrooms paired with others in the building to allow students to read together.   Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!  We believe you would have been very proud of our Explorers!

PRE Fireflies Reading Program

We have reached the half-way point of the Fireflies reading program and we want to make sure all of our Explorers know that there is still time for them to read their way to the game!  Please refer to the image below for key information regarding the program.

Volunteers Needed

Polo Road had its kick-off for the spring fundraiser yesterday and it was lots of fun for the students!  Hopefully your child has already told you all about it.  Now your help is needed to ensure the fundraiser's success.  The PTO is in need of volunteers to help count the money received.  They will need the help of parents beginning Monday, March 5 - Friday, March 16.  Volunteers can sign up to help just once or on as many mornings as possible.  The volunteer shifts have been set in 30 minute increments in hopes that more parents will be able to assist.  Click on the sign up sheet to view the available dates and times help is needed and to sign up as your schedule permits.
