2018 Annual Report to Parents

Dear Parents
Each Year we send out an Annual Report of our progress to our parents.  The linked Annual Report to Parents report is a combined effort between our School and your School Improvement Council. Please access the document to review the 2017-18 report for Polo Road Elementary School.

Thank you for partnering with us!

PTO's Icecream Social...YUMMY!

Thanks to everyone who came out to celebrate a successful year with PRE's PTO on Monday evening.

We all had a blast eating ice-cream sundaes and fresh baked cookies during the last PTO General Meeting of the year!

Many thanks PTO!!

Thank YOU!!!

We would like to thank everyone for supporting our PAALS (Palmetto Animal Assisted Life Services) service learning project. The students did a great job of creating posters, promoting the project, and collecting supplies.

Take a look at this picture of everything we collected! Wow!

ESOL Family Night

Our ESOL Family Night was a huge success last evening!  Several of the parents and other family members of our English Language Learners came out last night to participate.  There were many students who wore authentic attire from their native countries and lots and lots of delicious food as well.  Take a glimpse into the evening by viewing the photos below.

Community Conversations

Please come share your thoughts and ideas regarding diversity and inclusion in Richland Two.  All meetings are open to the public and everyone is encouraged to participate.  Spanish translators will be in attendance and available at all meetings.  See below for dates and additional information.

School Schedule Reminders

Students will be dismissed at 11:30am on Thursday, April 26, and there will be no school for students on Friday, April 27.  The Afternoon Explorers after school care program will be open on the scheduled half day (April 26) for all enrolled students.  If there will be an expected change in your child's transportation home on April 26, please let your child's homeroom teacher know.

Report Cards

Students in grades K-5 received their 3rd quarter report cards today.  Please remember to sign and return only the report card jacket.  The actual report card is to be kept at home for your records.  We also ask that you spend a few minutes this weekend reviewing with your child the marks he or she earned in each subject area and don't forget to review and discuss the citizenship and work habits section.  Celebrate any successes and growth and then work together to set some individualized social and/or academic goals for your child to work toward achieving during the remainder of the school year. Taking a few minutes to do this can significantly increase the likelihood your child will experience the desired or expected outcomes.

Autism Awareness Week (April 16 - April 20)

Next week we will be kicking off Autism Awareness Week at PRE!

Below is a list of activities planned for the week...

Light It Up Blue! - All students are encouraged to wear blue throughout the week Monday - Friday. If a student is spotted wearing blue, he or she just might receive a small treat. All teachers will also have a blue light bulb in use in their classrooms.

School Store: We will be lighting up the School Store Blue! The store has been fully stocked with blue items for students to purchase and it will be open all week to allow students extra days to make purchases.

Tattoos:  We will be selling/applying tattoos at the school store. Tattoos will be applied to students' hands by members of student council. Permission slips will be sent home on Monday.  The cost of the tattoos is 50 cents and students must have permission slips signed and returned in order to get tattoos.

Buddy Up Inclusion Activities: Classes will pair up to participate in 10-15 minute activities designed to be all inclusive.  These activities are intended to serve as the perfect opportunity to teach tolerance and demonstrate behavior that is welcoming of all.

Activities include:
  • Monday-Buddy up and Read
  • Tuesday-Buddy up and make a craft
  • Wednesday-Buddy up and Play games
  • Thursday-Buddy up and Play games
  • Friday-Buddy up and share a treat

Literacy & T-shirts: Classroom teachers will read books throughout the week that encourage awareness and acceptance and all those who purchased Autism Awareness T-shirts are asked to wear them on Friday, April 20.

We look forward to all Explorers participating in some way and encourage families to ask students to share with any thoughts or lessons learned from the week.

Spring Pictures

Students will be taking their Spring Pictures on Monday, April 16.  No money is to be sent in now.  Parents will be able to view the pictures first and then decide which photos they would like to purchase.  Students will not need to wear uniform attire for their pictures.  We therefore hope to see many students dressed for success in their favorite spring outfits on Monday!

ESOL Night

Polo Road is excited to be hosting its 3rd annual ESOL Night.  The event will be held this Thursday, April 19, from 5:00pm-7:00pm for all students who receive ESOL services and their families.  Invitations were sent out prior to Spring Break and we are looking forward to seeing all those families who have already returned their RSVP forms indicating they will be in attendance.

PRE's PAALS Spring Service Learning Project

School-wide Spring Service Learning Project

At Polo Road Elementary, we understand the power of partnering with our community and doing our part to give back and meet the demands of worthy causes. With that in mind, we're excited to let you know that we will be participating in our PAALS Spring Service Learning Project next week!

Palmetto Animal Assisted Life Services is the largest and most active service animal training group in our state. They help get animals ready to go into the world to assist the humans who need them. We are running a supply drive so that we help stock PAALS with all the goodies they need.

We would love it if you would please help us help them by sending in at least one item from the wish list below. Every little bit helps!

Below is the supply list, for your reference. Even if students bring in the "wrong" brand of food, we will donate it to PAALS anyway. I'm sure they'll have a way to get it to an animal in need. ;)

Thank you for your donations, both big and small!
