Bows & Bow Ties Dance

Polo Road is hosting its first Bows & Bow Ties School Dance and we hope to see you there!  The theme for this event is "Let Your Dreams Take Flight" and the night promises to be one you won't want to miss.  So that we can plan accordingly, families must prepay to attend.  All registration forms and funds are due next Thursday, April 11.  The cost is $10 for one student and adult; with an additional $1 for each additional student living in the same household.  Families may also have one additional adult to attend for $5 more.  RSVP forms were sent home last week and one can be downloaded from the link above.

MAP Testing

The spring administration of MAP testing has begun.  Students in grades 2-5 began taking their Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) tests this week.  The MAP assessment is a an adaptive computerized achievement test that is given for reading and mathematics.  MAP is also a norm-referenced measure of student growth over time.  Prior to administering the spring test, teachers discussed with students how they performed on the fall test and shared with them their individualized growth goals for the spring administration.  All students were armed with the knowledge they have gained thus far this year and many have already accomplished their goals.  MAP testing will continue through April 12.  Ask your child to share with you information regarding his reading and math goals.  If you are wondering what you can do on your end, be sure your child gets a good night's rest, eats a healthy breakfast, and arrives to school on time with a positive attitude ready to demonstrate only his or her personal best.  Then celebrate growth and let your child know that you are proud of their efforts.  Official score reports for MAP will be sent home later in the year.

Spring Pictures

Students will be taking their spring pictures Wednesday, April 10.  No money is to be sent in at this time.  Picture packages will be sent home with all students for preview purposes.  From there, parents are to select which portraits they would like to purchase and send in the money for those pictures kept or return the entire package without making a purchase.

Report Cards

Students in kindergarten - 5th grade will be bringing home their 3rd quarter report cards today.  Please take a moment this weekend to review with your child the grades earned and comments reflected on his or her report card.  Don't forget to celebrate any areas of growth.  From there, set some academic and/or social goals for the remaining 4th quarter.  Encourage your child to finish strong by simply doing his or her personal best in all areas.  You may keep the actual report card, but please sign and return to your child's homeroom teacher the report card jacket on Monday.

Camp Discovery

This week members of our Girls of Leadership and Distinction (G.O.L.D.) and Kind Intelligent Noble Gentlemen Students (K.I.N.G.S.) mentoring programs participated in a field study to Camp Discovery.  While there, the students were able to hike along a nature trail and engage in several team-building activities.  The students had a great time and they represented Polo Road like the young lady leaders and gentlemen we are nurturing and teaching them to be.  We are therefore #PoloProud!
