Love is in the AIR!

Valentine's Day is almost upon us. Although this is an exciting time for most, please keep in mind that this is a regular school day of quality teaching and learning at PRE. As a result, there is no time designated for class parties or celebrations in honor of this holiday. Please refrain from sending cupcakes, ice cream, cookies or any other related items for your child's class.Teachers will, however, be happy to allow students to pass out treat bags and/or trade cards at the very end of the day. If you choose to prepare treat bags or Valentine's Day cards, be sure to include ALL students in your child's class or the treats/cards will be returned to you.
In order to maintain a structured school day with minimal distractions, please be aware  that the Administration or Front office personnel will not deliver gifts to students, including balloons, flowers, teddy bears, etc, on Valentine's Day, February 14th. Please do not bring or have these items delivered to our school for your child.

Happy 100th Day!

Today we celebrated the 100th day of school and as you can see, several students and staff members decided to participate by dressing as if they had already reached the young age of 100!

Congratulations

Congratulations are in order for our Staff Person of the Month.  Our registrar, Mrs. Debbie Waldrop, has been selected as the staff person of the month most demonstrating the character trait of self-control.  We are so proud of the work Mrs. Waldrop does daily with our PRE families and staff; and she always does it with great self-control and a smile.  Congratulations, Mrs. Waldrop!

Recognition Ceremony

Polo Road Elementary hosted its quarterly Recognition Ceremony today and we were honored and excited to recognize so many students and staff members. Students in child development through 5th grade were recognized for accomplishments such as perfect attendance, A Honor Roll, A/B Honor Roll, most improved in reading, most improved in math, and for demonstrating the character traits of compassion, self-control, and respect.  Teachers were recognized for sponsoring clubs, perfect attendance and for demonstrating various character traits.  We are so proud of each and every one of our Explorers and look forward to honoring and acknowledging even more students and staff at the 3rd quarter ceremony.  Check out a few of the pictures below from today's ceremony and visit the school's Facebook page to view a few short video clips and additional photos from the ceremony.

Friday, February 1, 2019 is World Read Aloud Day (WRAD).  This is a day that educators around the world will use to acknowledge the importance of sharing stories and celebrate the power of the Read Aloud.  WRAD is a global literacy movement that is intended to spread a love and joy for reading and sharing stories with others.  Teachers at PRE will use WRAD to challenge students to grab a book, find an audience, and read aloud.  We hope that our PRE families will also take a moment at home on this day to share in the reading of a story or two.  This will demonstrate to students that reading is enjoyable to more than just students and also worth doing outside the school day.  Click on the WRAD link for additional information or to view some read aloud resources that can be used as you and your family celebrate WRAD.
