Polo Road is once again partnering with Spring Valley High School for their annual Winter Days giving initiative. Winter Days consists of various charitable drives (food, clothing, toys) that benefit a number of local community agencies that help those in need. We are therefore asking PRE families to donate what they can to the drive. A list of requested items is below. Doing what you can to help others is the perfect opportunity to foster a spirit of giving and demonstrate to your child the LifeSkill of Compassion. Polo Road's student council members will coordinate the efforts here at the school. To make things more spirited, we will have a friendly competition between the various grade levels. We will begin accepting donations Monday, November 25 and the deadline to turn in all donations is Friday, December 13.

Career Day @ PRE
Students at PRE learned about many fascinating careers today! Several of our very own Explorer parents joined us today to speak with students regarding their chosen career paths. Students were able to meet and converse with an attorney, Army drill sergeant, judge, counselor, chiropractors, personal trainer, business owner, financial literacy advisor, and a human services representative. We also had representation from the Columbia Fire Department, Richland County Sheriff's Department, EMS, a Postal Manager and Trainer, Dominion Energy, and helicopter pilots. The students learned a lot and we think it really got them thinking about all the possibilities that exist for their future career choices.
Thank you VERY much to all of the parents and community members who chose to volunteer at PRE today. We recognize that your time is valuable and know that you could have been elsewhere. We therefore extend to you our heartfelt gratitude.

CiCi's Family Night
Thank you to all of the families who came out and supported this PTO sponsored event! It was crowded and everyone appeared to be enjoying themselves. If you were able to join us, please know that your support is greatly appreciated. If you were unable to make it out, we hope to see you at our next spirit night. It will be held on Tuesday, January 28, 2020 from 5:00pm - 7:00pm, so please mark your calendars and save the date.
Expedition Book Club
We are gearing up for the next Expedition Book Club (EBC) celebration. It will be held Friday, December 6. If you would like more information regarding the EBC or for your child to participate, please click on the link to access the form. All completed forms are due by Monday, December 2. There is also a Spanish version of the Expedition Book Club form available for those needing it. Allowing your child to participate in the EBC is the perfect way to celebrate a special person and/or occasion while also fostering a love for literacy!

Naitonal Jr. Beta Club
This past Thursday evening Polo Road Elementary recognized its highest academic achieving students in grades 4 and 5. These students were selected based upon their cumulative GPAs and their outstanding reputations of character, leadership, achievement, and service. PRE had more than 50 inductees who became members of the National Jr. Beta Club and we are very proud of each of them! We would also like to thank the students' families because we know that it takes a true partnership between home and school in order for students to be able to work to their full potentials and accomplish such a prestigious academic honor as this. We therefore congratulate all of the inductees and their families!

Report Cards
Students in grades K-5 received their 1st quarter report cards today. Please celebrate all successes and then schedule some time this weekend to review with your student the information obtained on the report card. Lastly, in order to increase the likelihood of continued growth and success, we do ask that you and your student set some achievable academic and/or behavioral goals for the upcoming quarter.
Student Council Officers
Congratulations to the following students for being elected to officer positions on this year's Student Council for Polo Road Elementary! This is a major accomplishment because after campaigning with posters and student speeches which were shared on the school's morning news show, these students were chosen by their peers in grades K-5 who took part in the democratic process to select them to represent the students of PRE.
Superintendent's Safety Message
Dr. Baron Davis, Richland School District Two's Superintendent, would like to share a brief, but very important message regarding safety in Richland Two. Please take a minute to view this video regarding our number one priority for the students, staff, and faculty members with whom we serve and work in the district.
