Engineering Week at USC-FREE Event- Feb. 24th

Mark your calendar for National Engineers Week - February 17-24, 2018. Engineers and computer scientists innovate, create and solve problems. They are key to our health, safety, and happiness. When children and teens get to experience engineering and computer science, they realize how interesting and fun these professions can be. That's why the National Engineers Week Foundation – and the College of Engineering and Computing – are dedicated to attracting and cultivating the next generation of engineers and computer scientists.
During Engineers Week, the college hosts a special open house geared toward kindergarten through 12th-grade students.
The open house, set for February 24, 2018, is held at the Swearingen Engineering Center at 315 Main Street, Columbia, SC. The event runs from 10am-1pm. Additional exhibits will be displayed in our 300 Main Street building as well. Please allow at least 2 hours to see all of our exhibits! Check out the program for this year!
The free event features dozens of interactive exhibits that highlight our academic programs and research including:
  • Fuel cell demonstrations
  • Electric and hybrid vehicles
  • A concrete canoe
  • A cornstarch pool
  • Robots
  • Computer games
  • Bottle Rockets
  • Segway rides

Girls WANTED!

Girls WANTED!! Sign up today.
We believe that EVERY GIRL is inherently FULL OF POWER and POTENTIAL. By knowing they are the leaders of their lives, these are the girls who WILL CHANGE THE WORLD.

PRE is in the process of developing its own SPRING team and we need your daughter to help make this happen!
Girls on the Run is a program for girls in 3rd-5th grade that encourages girls to recognize their individual strengths and celebrate connections with others. Each season, girls gain a better understanding of who they are and what’s important to them, the value of teamwork and healthy relationships and how they can have a positive impact on the world. Girls also make a meaningful contribution to their community through a team-organized Community Impact Project. Physical activity is woven into the program to inspire an appreciation for fitness and healthy habits and teach life skills including treating others with care, practicing gratitude and managing emotions. Each season culminates with a Girls on the Run 5K event. This celebratory, non-competitive event provides girls with a sense of accomplishment and instills the value of goal setting at a young age.
In need of financial assistance? The scholarship approval process is now included in the online and paper registration process!
